he's got a new game out on his brand new console. considered skipping straight to 4 for the formula mix-up but was worried i might miss out on important tony lore. opted for the PS2 version because of this crucial lyric on the soundtrack that's censored in every other version:

there is a basically-the-same-but-crunchier PS1 version as well that i'm checking out gameplay for, and honestly it looks more appealing to me. i miss my jaggies

what's helped me blast through these games in succession is that they really are all mostly the same but with small improvements along the way. moving onto a new game is just like moving onto a new set of levels. unfortunately this presents the issue that, there is not much new to talk about. still good, still fun, but still tony (quote from the back of the box)

so came the decision to try playing it drunk to keep things interesting. i'm pretty strict with how i write these diaries; everything written on a given day is set in stone except for fixing typos. so thank GOD i had the foresight to backspace everything, if there was even anything, that i had written just before midnight. i don't remember how much progress i made, i think i was already mostly done with the game by that time yesterday anyway. pro skating does not take that long all things considered

damn that's a pretty big level. gotcha STUPID it's just a small park with a couple treehouses. we're still in the 2-minute era so levels can't be too expansive. then there's an airport level where i gotta "visit 10 countries" but it's actually just grinding across ten different countries' flags!! you can really tell they were getting lazy by this installment. where's my open-entire-world level

i was a little disappointed when i first started playing, because i had the loser mentality of making quick progress in my video games instead of just goofing off and having fun, which i knew better how to do as a small idiot child playing these games. but that goof fun ended up happening when i was playing drunk, so maybe that's the way to go. maybe alcoholism is just what you do as an adult. anyway

a lot of objectives amount to vaguely doing a trick at something this time around. sometimes it works, sometimes the trick i chose doesn't count and i get knocked down. also learned that these pickpockets in the airport level were originally terrorists, and then, well this game came out october 2001

a lil worried to move onto a game that has manuals too because i like the smaller, more isolated combos, and the pressure to have one going 99% of the time via some manner of manualage might make it not as fun

might've been right about the manuals. the numbers are very large now (a reference to the number in the title being larger) and from the looks of gameplay from people better than me at this and all other games, spamming manuals most of the time sure seems like the way to go. i don't know man!! it's just not as enjoyable for me to rely on this. i think the player should be scored based on how good a time they are having

took a short break from videoboarding to work on my website, it's been offline for half a year and will continue to be until there's no risk of me publicly embarrassing myself by falling off my board. yesterday i started seriously looking into skateboarding equipment again due to the impression this game has implanted in me that everything here is realistic and perfectly doable, but again ultimately decided it was just not viable. bought a bike instead. yawned just typing that

i learned to stop trying to figure out how to complete all the goals myself. i like when a game has secrets like these and they do always make me go "whooaa WHOOAAA" when i see them, but often the only way i see them is by resorting to looking them up. don't they know i'm speeding through all these games in succession i don't have time to spend 20 hours just chilling out having fun with them like they intended. to even know this whole outside area existed i had to grind along one small flag i could barely see

plus in this one there are a few challenges that are only doable after having completed others, which resulted in a lot of confused wandering around. this game made the nice addition of having a little intro movie that shows generally where each challenge takes place in the level, but they sorta canceled it out with this. i was watching a guide for one level and i straight up started wondering if i was playing a different version of the game, because some things just were not there for me

always sigh a little when i get up to a competition, and YES it's because i'm bad at them ok, let it be known that i'm well aware much of my complaining simply come down to I Am Not Good At Tony. i enjoy the game a lot more when it's telling me "bet you can't do a whateverflip on a railthing" or "are you a pro enough skater to get on top of this building", instead of just "get a lot of points"

only my best two rounds count so i quit out the third round when i'm sure i've already won. shoutout to the judge who gave me 12.8 points for doing literally nothing, we got some zephieheads in the crowd

this was my biggest combo i think. that's right baby zero special tricks performed whatsoever, i don't need to get a lot of points to get a lot of points. i honestly don't know why i never check out the specials menu. but i've already 100%'d the game so you can't get mad at me for it. again by 100% i mean all goals, golds, stats and decks with one character as opposed to twenty-one of them

this cruise ship level rules. at least i think it does, maybe i just have a better opinion of it because it resulted in the game not ending on a competition that took me way too long to get gold in like the last two. but it's cool i unhinged a propeller that triggered a 30+ second cutscene of it just screwing absolutely everything up. i had to impress the Neversoft Girls. "you're never soft when they're around" - funny joke that i would have put in the game but i'm glad they didn't

alright.....this is fr**king awesome. when i didn't play this for a few days i was like ahh i think i got videoboarding out of my system, i'll probably finish off the third one quickly then call it. but dang if i don't wanna move onto 4 now... unfortunately i do not feel a need to check out the GBC version this time even though this one does also look quite different and interesting. maybe i will at some point. you gotta keep people on the edge of their seats. will zephie play tony hawk 3 for gameboy??? you'll have to stay tuned, and please never email me about it
